Relevant News

Police have made another three arrests in connection with the deadly fire at a cafe in central Nicosia which led to the death of a woman.

The four suspects are expected to appear in court for a remand hearing on Friday as police continue their investigation into murder and arson.

Earlier on Thursday afternoon police arrested a 32 year old man who was being sought in connection with the fire at the three storey building on Costakis Pantelides street, off Eleftheria Square.

Later yesterday they arrested three others — the 46 year old owner of the cafe and another 28 year old man. A fourth man, a 21 year old, was also arrested as an accessory after the crime.

A police spokesman said that inquiries are continuing.

The victim, a woman from the Ukraine, was found dead in her apartment on the first floor of the three storey building by fire fighters who responded to the fire.

A post mortem carried out on Thursday was inconclusive and further tests are being carried out, CyBC said,

Fire fighters were called to the scene after an explosion and fire early on Wednesday morning.

It is believed the explosion followed by the fire were caused by a gas leak which was deliberate.

The victim is not believed to have been a target.
