Temperatures up to 40 C, yellow alert in effect

Today will be mainly fine with temperatures reaching 40 C inland, 35 C in the east coast, 33 C in the south and north coasts, and 30 C in the west coast and the mountains.

The Met Department has released another yellow alert for extremely high temperatures which is in force from 11 am until 5 pm today, warning that people who are the most vulnerable during these hours are the elderly and the very young.

In the afternoon increased cloud may be observed, especially in the mountains.

Tonight will be mainly fine but sparse fog and low clouds may form locally in the early morning hours of Monday. Temperatures tonight will edge down to 25 C inland, 23 C in the south and east coasts, 21 C in the north and west coasts and 18 C in the mountains.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will be mainly fine. Temperatures will remain around the same levels, which are above average for the time of year.
