Temperatures reach 41.9°C – highest ever recorded in May

The Met office confirmed that temperatures recorded at Athalassa weather station today reached 41.9°C.

KitasWeather said that this is the highest ever recorded temperature in Cyprus during the month and 11 degrees higher than the 30.9°C normal values for the period (May 21-25).

The previous highest recorded temperature for May (41.5°C) was in 1995 according to Met Office archives which store data from 1991-2005.

The lowest minimum temperature recorded in Athalassa in May was 7.5°C.

The highest temperature ever recorded in Cyprus was again at Athalassa when the heat reached 45.6°C in August 2010.

The Met office issued an extreme high temperature warning for Thursday. It said that a warm air mass is affecting the area.

Highest maximum recorded in May: 34.6°C

Lowest minimum recorded in May : 9.2°C

Paphos airport station:

Highest maximum recorded in May: 34.7°C

Lowest minimum recorded in May : 8.5°C

Limassol municipal garden station:

Highest maximum recorded in May: 38.6°C

Lowest minimum recorded in May : 11.1°C

Larnaca airport station:

Highest maximum recorded in May: 38.3°C

Lowest minimum recorded in May : 8.9 °C

Paralimni station:

Highest maximum recorded in May: 36.3°C

Lowest minimum recorded in May : 10.7 °C

Prodromos station:

Highest maximum recorded in May: 32°C

Lowest minimum recorded in May : 2 °C

Saittas station:

Highest maximum recorded in May: 39.5°C

Lowest minimum recorded in May : 4.5 °C
