Teacher aide for boy with special needs dismissed so that school saves money

Relevant News

School authorities in a Limassol district elementary school have dismissed from her duties a teacher aide for a seven-year-old boy with special needs citing financial difficulties.

This is what Philenews reported on Friday, adding that the family of Constantinos Kontou are outraged over this bleak development – the second time around since the same decision was taken a year ago.

The case was again reported in the media and public reaction forced the school authorities to change their mind and do provide a special aide to the boy.

Constantinos has been diagnosed with psychomotor disorders which prevent him from speaking, has limited eyesight and is unable to take care of himself even for basic needs.

His mother told Philenews that without any information and despite the great progress her child recorded last year, the aide has been taken away.

Within one day, she added, the decision was taken and implemented by the school’s board who cited financial difficulties behind it.
