Strovolos murder defendant, Sarah Siams sentenced to four years in jail

Sarah Siams, one of the four defendants in the Strovolos double murder case was sentenced to four years in prison on Thursday.

The Nicosia Criminal Court found her guilty of the charge of conspiracy to commit robbery.

Siams, 21, had recently agreed to plead guilty to the charge and to cooperate with authorities in prosecuting the three other defendants.

She had been initially charged with eight charges, including premeditated murder, conspiracy to commit a crime, robbery and illegal possession of weapons.

However, the charges were dropped afters she agreed to cooperate with the authorities. Siams’ counsel said that she will testify as a witness for the prosecution.

Explaining its sentencing decision, the Nicosia Criminal Court said that it also took into consideration that the defendant had a clean criminal record.

Siams’ former boyfriend Loizos Tzionis, 33, Tzionis’ half-brother Lefteris Solomou, 23, and Marios Hadjixenophontos, 22  have pleaded not guilty to the charges relating to the murder of Yiorgos Hadjigeorgiou and his wife Dina Sergiou who were found stabbed to death at their home last April in what police believe was a botched robbery.

Siams has been in prison since April 28.
