Some light showers possible today, temperatures at 18 C inland and on coasts

It will be partly cloudy today with the possibility of light showers and above average temperatures with more widespread rain and strong winds forecast for tomorrow.

In its early morning weather bulletin, the Met Office said weak low pressure is affecting the area at intervals whereas from Thursday evening, low pressure is expected.

It said that after local light fog or low cloud lift, Wednesday will be partly cloudy with the possibility of isolated light showers or snowfall at intervals in the higher Troodos peaks.

Temperatures will rise to 18 C inland and on the coasts and around 9 C in the mountains.

Tonight will be partly cloudy and at intervals cloudy with the possibility of local, mainly light showers and snowfall at intervals in the higher Troodos peaks,

Temperatures will fall to 8 C inland, around 10 C on the south and east coasts, around 12 C on the west and north coasts and around 1 C in the mountains.

On Thursday there will be intervals of mainly fine weather and intervals of cloud. In the morning locally there will be isolated rain but from the afternoon there will be local showers and/or thunderstorms. In the higher Troodos peaks there will be snowfall at intervals.

From midnight on there will be very strong local winds. Friday and Saturday will be mainly fine with locally increased cloud at intervals

Temperatures will remain at the same levels on Thursday at slightly above average for the time of year,  at least inland and in the mountains and will edge down to a little below the seasonal average on Friday. Temperatures will rise on Saturday.

The depth of snow at Troodos Square at the time of issue of the early morning weather bulletin was 76 cm.

Roads

Police have announced that the following roads are open only to four wheel drive cars or those equipped with snow chains:

Prodromos-Troodos and Troodos Square -Olympos.

Police said that because conditions on the mountain road network are changeable because of the winter, the public is urged to stay updated from the police App or website before setting off.
