Larnaca Assize Court has sentenced a 36-year-old man from a Famagusta district village to six years in prison for the rape of a British woman back in July 4, 2017.
The 18-year-old woman at the time had accepted an offered ride from him to take her back to her Ayia Napa hotel.
Instead, he drove to the new Ayia Napa cemetery’s parking area where the rape took place. He then hit her, pushed her on the ground and drove away.
The young woman was partying with girlfriends at Makronisos beach before she ended up taking the bus by herself to go back to the hotel.
The bus stop was a short distance from the hotel but the man, who had just finished work, stopped and offered her a ride which she had accepted.
