Seven irregular migrants from Syria who told police they had come from Turkey via Turkish-occupied north Cyprus have been taken to the temporary accommodation centre in Kokkinotromithia.

Police said that at around 10 pm on Monday, seven men from Syria aged 18, 19, 26, 27, 32, 36 and 40 had gone to Oroklini police station.

From there they were taken to Larnaca CID to determine their identity.

They told police that they had gone to Turkey from Syria and from there paid 600 euro each to be taken by boat to the Turkish occupied north.

They were then taken by car to the government controlled areas and walked along Larnaca-Dhekelia road to Oroklini police station, they said.
