Seven fined €150 to €450 for breaking Covid-19 decree

Famagusta district court on Tuesday handed down fines of between €150 and €450 to seven individuals for violating decrees to contain the spread of coronavirus.

Overall, the fines amounted to €2200 the Cyprus News Agency reported.

They were all charged separately under decrees issued by the Health Minister.

Currently, there is an out of court fine of €150 for breaking the stay at home decree which cabinet today doubled to €300.

Alternatively, police also have the discretionary power to take perpetrators to court where the penalty is a fine of up to €3000 and /or six months in jail.

Although courts are currently hearing only urgent cases, the Justice Minister has clarified that violations of the decree will be fast tracked.
