Several schools, mainly primary school are without teachers who for several reasons, including the pandemic have to remain at home, while at the same time no substitute teachers can be found.
This is a very serious problem that concerns the teachers’ union which sent some suggestions to the Education Ministry.
These include:
- The establishment of a pool of substitute teachers
- The provision of motives to substitute teachers, and
- The appointment of all substitute teachers for 29 teaching periods and the extra time to be used by school units.
The situation so far remains disappointing and in an effort to solve the problem, kindergarten teachers were also asked to express interest, in order to cover the gaps in the primary schools.
Regarding the reason the positions of substitute teachers do not seem attractive, officials believe this is due to the pandemic and the epidemiological image of schools.
