Ruling Disy leader no longer wants police officers driving him around

Relevant News

Ruling Disy leader Averof Neophytou has sent a letter to the island’s police chief informing that he no longer requires the service of police officers driving him around.

This is what Philenews reported on Thursday, adding that the letter is dated October 28.

And that it was sent days only after newly-elected House President Adamos Adamou requested for the number of police officers personally guarding him to be reduced from 15 to eight.

Adamou who is affiliated with Opposition Akel had said the number was redundant and it would be best if the state was not burdened with such an unnecessary cost.

In the meantime, Neophytou informed the police chief that he would make his own arrangements as regards personal drivers.

He also called for the number of police members guarding politicians to be reconsidered the soonest possible.

And if the police leadership decides that a number of officers are essential for security purposes, then the cost should be calculated so that the party undertakes to pay it to the Force.
