The Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF) together with the Deputy Ministry of Research and Innovation issued a call on Friday to members of Cyprus’ research and innovation community to come together and submit their proposals for the effective handling of the consequences of Covid-19 in the areas of public health, the economy and society.

In a press release, RIF and the Ministry called on the research and business community of the island to submit their suggestions for the development of new approaches, solutions, products and services pertaining to the challenges brought about by the consequences of the pandemic.

“The ultimate aim is to accelerate the process of restoring normalcy, focusing on the immediate and long-term effects of the virus,” the announcement said.

The number of proposals submitted that will come to life as well as the amount of the funding to be made available will be decided upon relevant evaluation, it was added.

The open invitation comprises more than 25 subject areas, including the development Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to collect and manage epidemiological information, the design and production of equipment for frontline staff, development of novel diagnostic methods, facilitating remote education, boosting the physical and mental health of citizens amid the lockdown and enhancing access to public services.

Participants can be organisations as well as individuals, while the deadline to submit proposals (invitation reference number: COVID EoI 04/2020) is May 18, 2020.

For more information and to submit an application, prospective applicants can visit RIF’s website at www.research.org.cy.
