As of December 13th, a total of 15,004 COVID-19 cases have been diagnosed, of which 85 died due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) which translates to a case fatality risk of 0.6%, the latest National Surveillance Report published on Friday says.
According to the report, the 14-day cumulative diagnosis rate is 498.3 per 100,000 population, the report reads.
The Report says that the data are “subject to change due to the rapidly evolving situation.”
In the last 14 days (30 November – 13 December), it says, 4,425 cases were diagnosed. The median age was 36 years; 52.1% were female (2,306), 47.7% male (2,112), and for 7 cases (0.2%) sex is unknown.
As regards the place of exposure, 1.2% (53) were imported and 98.8% (n = 4,372) were locally-acquired.
Out of 10 cases in intensive care units (ICU) who are currently notified, 4 are intubated. The median age of current ICU patients is 69 years and 5 (50%) are males. Seven (70%) patients currently in ICU have pre-existing conditions.
A total of 665,112 molecular tests have been performed as of December 13th (74,900 per 100,000 population). In particular, over the last 14 days, 49,164 molecular tests have been performed (5,536.5 per 100,000 population).
As of December 13th, 15,004 laboratory-confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have been diagnosed.

Referring to the characteristics of the cases diagnosed in the last 14 days, the report says that among 4,425 cases diagnosed since 30th November, 52.1% were female (2,306), 47.7% male (2,112), and for 7 cases (0.2%) sex is unknown.
By age group, cases included 933 infants, children and adolescents aged 0-19 years-old (21.1%), 2,763 adults aged 20-59 years (62.4%), 727 persons aged 60 years and older (16.4%), and for 2 cases (0.1%) information was missing. The median age of all cases diagnosed in the last 14 days is 36 years. The median age of adult cases (≥ 18 years) is 42 years.
Among all cases diagnosed in the last 14 days, 2,373 (53.6%) were reported in Nicosia district, 1,050 (23,7%) in Larnaca, 386 (8.7%) in Famagusta, 383 (8.7%) in Limassol, 121 (2.7%) in Pafos, and 112 (2.5%) were reported either in the British bases or had a residence abroad, or information was not available.

In the last 14 days (30 November – 13 December), 29.9% (1,323) reported no symptoms at diagnosis and 70.1% (3,102) reported at least one symptom.
At the same time, in the last 14 days (17 – 30 December), 1,098 cases (24.8%) reported at least one comorbidity.
Among cases, 85 COVID-19 associated deaths were reported in Cyprus until December 16th (Case Fatality Risk – CFR: 0.6%). The COVID-19 associated mortality is 9.6 per 100,000 population.
Deaths occurred in 55 men (64.7%) and 30 (35.3%) women; the median age of all COVID-19 associated deaths was 81 years (IQR: 72-86 years). By district of residence, deceased cases were 36 (42.4%) from Limassol, 21 (24.7%) from Nicosia, 12 (14.1%) from Larnaca, 9 (10.6%) from Pafos, and 7 (8.2%) from Famagusta. The median time from date of sampling to death (due to COVID-19) was 13 days.
Among cases, 110 deaths (all causes) were reported in Cyprus until December 16th (CFR: 0.7%).
According the mortality (all-causes) for people with COVID-19 is 12.4 per 100,000 population. Deaths occurred in 72 men (65.4%) and 38 (34.6%) women; the median age of all deaths was 81.5 years. By district of residence, deceased cases were 47 (42.7%) from Limassol, 24 (21.8%) from Nicosia, 17 (15.5%) from Larnaca, 12 (10.9%) from Pafos, 9 (8.2%) from Famagusta, and one death (0.9%) occurred among cases reported either in the British bases or had a residence abroad, or information was not available.
The median time from date of sampling to death (all-causes) was 12 days.
In total, 5% (750) of people with COVID-19 received hospital care, as of December 16th. The median age of hospitalized patients was 64 years. Hospitalized cases were mainly males (420; 56%).
The report warns that “data on hospitalisation and ICU are provisional and should be interpreted with caution because delay in data reporting is likely; for the construction of the curve, people are no longer in an ICU/hospital the day next to the date of their discharge, death or transfer.”
Overall, 69 cases (9.2% of all hospitalized patients) have been admitted to ICU. The median age of patients ever admitted to ICU was 69 years. ICU patients are mainly male (49; 71%).
The overall median length of stay in ICU (for all 69 ICU cases) was 14 days.
As of December 16, and based on records which rapidly evolve, 10 cases are still in ICU (including deaths / discharged on that day). The median age of current ICU patients is 69 years and 5 (50%) are males. Seven (70%) patients currently in ICU have pre-existing conditions.
The number of cases currently in ICU is 1.1 per 100,000 population, it says, noting that the data are as of December 16th, including deaths/discharged on that day.
A total of 61 ICU patients (85.5% of all ICU patients) have been intubated – currently there are 4 patients intubated in ICU (including deaths/discharged on that day).
