Demetris Mashias, president of second division FC Ayia Napa and referee Andreas Constantinou were remanded in custody for eight days by Larnaca district court on Wednesday as police investigate allegations of match fixing.
Police told the remand hearing that they had testimony that Mashias, a former referee, had contacted an official at rival team Othello offering him €10,000 to share out among the players to throw the match against Ayia Napa.
Mashias reportedly then told the Othello official that if he did not agree he would contact the referee. The person contacted reportedly turned down the offer.
Police said that they will take another 70 statements and carry out ID parades if necessary.
Lawyers objected to the remand but the court ordered the two men be held in custody.
The referee at the match between Ayia Napa and Othello was Andreas Constantinou.
It ended with an Othello side, depleted to eight players after the referee showed three red cards all after the 70th minute, losing after a penalty was awarded against it in the seventh minute of extra time.
The two men were remanded in custody to facilitate police investigations in a case of alleged conspiracy to commit an offence and conspiracy to violate the laws on match fixing.
The offences were reportedly committed between February 3 and 8.
