Recreation centre owners up in arms over possible 1am closure

Relevant News

Recreation centre owners in Cyprus are already up in arms over speculation that the Health Ministry will call for a 1am closure of all establishments.

And that night-clubs will not open at all as part of measures taken to contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, Philenews reported on Monday.

The proposed measures will reportedly be valid until mid-2021 and the association – Pasika – has already raised strong objections in a written statement.

“Is there any proof that the coronavirus in Cyprus is spreading in recreation centres?,” the statement said.

“Plus, is this proposal made after any kind of study that could prove owners of such businesses could withstand the financial repercussions of such a measure?,” it added.

Pasika also said that tourists come over to Cyprus for entertainment, even in a ‘restricted’ way these days.

The association then wondered what would happen if thousands of businesses would be forced to close down as a result, thus affecting thousands of employees and their families.

“Perhaps the ministry’s attention should turn to other directions?,” it asked.

“For example, they should focus on airports and the points of entry with more effective controls,” it said.

The association has called for a meeting with the Health Minister and pleaded for dialogue.
