Prospective students mired in uncertainty due to A Levels

Relevant News

The cancellation of A Levels due to the pandemic is causing problems for Cypriot pupils who were preparing throughout their final school year to secure their place at UK universities for their undergraduate studies, philenews reports.

Speaking to philenews, Studies Councillor Chrysanthos Savvides said that the cancellation of A Levels due to Coronavirus is causing problems for students at state schools who were expected to enter universities in the UK with their grade from these exams, and they were attending private classes all year for this purpose.

“I have recommended to these students to reach out as soon as possible to the universities they were expected to attend and ask for different entry criteria, like for example entry using their Apolyterion grade (end of high school Diploma),” he said.

Asked on the health of the 8,000 students at UK universities during the pandemic, Savvides said that there have been no issues and there are no grounds for concern.

The BBC has reported that some universities in Scotland are delaying the start of the new academic year, including the University of Aberdeen and the University of Dundee.
