Head of electric car company Gunsel, Suat İrfan Günsel, has said that production of electric cars on a large scale in the breakaway Turkish-held north of Cyprus will begin in 2023.

Günsel, who is also the Near East University rector, said the company’s goal is to sell some 240,000 vehicles by 2030, according to CNA which cited Turkish Cypriot press reports.

Gunsel company reportedly has suppliers from 30 different countries and cooperates with as many as 1,200 companies around the world. It will focus specifically on the B9 electric car model.

“The production of the electric cars will massively help our economy and the automotive, engineering and technology industries,” Gunsel was quoted saying.

Moreover, entering the electric car market will help the breakaway regime in the north integrate with the rest of Europe and the world, he also said.
