Private pathologists bolster Paphos Hospital

Two private pathologists sent to Paphos Hospital at the instructions of the Health Ministry have taken up their duties and will also cover cases over the weekend, the Cyprus News Agency reports.

More than a dozen health professionals at Paphos Hospital have tested positive for coronavirus and a number are also in self-isolation and the hospital has been in partial lockdown.

The hospital’s A&E unit is working with skeleton staff, the dialysis, X Ray, lab and thalassaemia units are continuing to cater for patients.

Dr Iosif Moutiris, who has taken over management of the hospital temporarily after the head also tested positive for Covid-19, told the Cyprus News Agency that the two private pathologists were sent to the hospital from other towns as the hospital’s pathologists were in self-isolation.

One of the 16 new confirmed cases announced by the Health Ministry yesterday is linked to  Paphos Hospital but was due to old contact.

The Cyprus News Agency said a large number of health professionals who have been in isolation for two weeks since the first case was confirmed at the hospital have taken the second confirmatory tests to ensure they do not have the virus and then they can resume their duties.
