Paphos doctor Panayiotis Papakyriakou, who worked for years at Paphos Hospital and is now registered with GHS as a private doctor, announced via his social media account that he has been found positive to the virus which he contracted from his nurse wife also found positive from contact with the British patient treated in the hospital’s ICU.
He also said that their three children tested negative to Covid-19 tests, although they are also in isolation as the family lives together.
The doctor said he is determined to continue to provide services to his patients by telephone from home.
“We may be in an emergency, but I am confident we will make it,” he said.
Meanwhile, the private practice where the doctor works said they have already begun disinfecting the premises and anticipate they will resume operations on Saturday.
They have also started testing all the staff at the practice for Covid-19 and tracing of the doctor’s recent contacts is also underway.
