This morning prisoners, people who have been released from prison and their families carried out a protest inside and outside the Central Prisons, thus supporting Prison Director Anna Aristotelous.
Anna Aristotelous arrived at the Prison just before 11.00 and was received by a crowd shouting slogans in her support.
In a statement, she said that “This is the most moving day of my life to have all this support by people who have been released and by the staff of the prison.” She added that she is very proud of the work done over the past eight years.
Lawyer Alexandros Clerides was present at the protest on behalf of the Union Protecting the Rights of Prisoners and said that the prisoners’ request is that everything that has been released must be investigated.
