President to Thessaloniki to address event for Cyprus’ participation in Greek War of Independence

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades travels to Thessaloniki to address an event for Cyprus’ participation in the Greek War of Independence, organized by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, on Monday.

Earlier he will be received by the mayor of the city, Konstantinos Zervas, at the Town Hall.

A press release by the Presidency says that the President on Tuesday will attend the mass to take place at Agios Demetrios Church, the patron Saint of the city, and on the occasion of the liberation of Thessaloniki from the Ottomans in 1912. Greek President Katerina Sakelaropoulou will also be present at the mass.

On Tuesday afternoon the President will attend the official celebrations at the Aristotle University for the liberation of the city from the Ottoman yoke and for the Greek military accomplishment during the 1940 Greco-Italian War.

Government Spokesman Marios Pelekanos, Ambassador of Cyprus Kyriakos Kenevezos and General Consul Spyros Miltiades will accompany the President to his trip.
