President to brief political leaders on lockdown exit plan

President Nicos Anastasiades will on April 23 brief political party leaders about  efforts to address the COVID-19 pandemic, plans to ease restrictive measures, once the scientific team of the Health Ministry on the coronavirus gives the green light, the government’s plans to restart the economy and any other issues that arise concerning the coronavirus, Government Spokesman Kyriakos Koushos told CNA.

Koushos said the meeting will take place at the Presidential Palace next Thursday, at 1130 am. A day before, at 10.00, the President will chair a meeting with the scientific team on the coronavirus and the competent Ministers.

The spokesman went on to say that the meeting will take place in order to decide how they will proceed with the easing of restrictive measures and what each Ministry will do.

With regard to the meeting of the political party leaders under President Anastasiades, Koushos said that “the President will inform them about the situation and the developments regarding how we are dealing with the pandemic and where we stand.”

“There will be a briefing on the developments, the assessment which was done, the plans of the government to restart of the economy and any other issues that come up concerning the coronavirus,” he added.

Koushos stressed that when the time comes to ease the measures “we must know how we will do this. We are currently planning how we will proceed, when the scientific team gives us the green light for this, and which are the steps we need to take,” he added.

He said that on the basis of this planning and when the green light is given by scientists, businesses will gradually begin to operate again, starting with those functioning in open venues and with a small number of people, and always by taking all precautionary measures.

Meanwhile President Anastasiades will on Tuesday preside over meetings with business associations and social partners on issues related to the economy, in the presence of  competent Ministers.
