President, political leaders to get briefed on covid lockdown easing action plan

Relevant News

Health experts have drafted an action plan ahead of Thursday’s meeting of the cabinet to discuss the possible easing of the island’s coronavirus lockdown, Philenews reports.

The Health Minister and the team of scientific advisors on Wednesday will first brief the President and then the country’s political leadership on the state of play of the coronavirus. Their overall response will determine the de-escalation steps to follow.

But with the current restrictions’ decree expiring on Sunday, February 28, both the Health Ministry and scientific advisors have repeatedly warned that the easing of restrictive measures will be slow and gradual.

Health Minister Constantinos Ioannou has gone a step further already making clear that restaurants and other food venues will not re-open on Monday, March 1.

And that for the first 15 days of the month the 8998 sms system will remain in effect allowing two movements per day.

In addition, he has left open the possibility of all students returning to schools as from Monday since, in general, the country’s epidemiological situation has improved.

Except in coastal Limassol where higher rates continue to be seen. Were it not for Limassol, the epidemiological picture for the rest of Cyprus would be much better and the island could be deemed “green”.

And this would contribute decisively to the quicker lifting of more restrictive measures.
