President-elect begins forming gender-balanced Cabinet, meets Anastasiades

Relevant News

Newly elected President Nikos Christodoulides who met outgoing President Nicos Anastasiades on Monday evening has begun forming a gender-balanced Cabinet, Philenews reported on Tuesday citing insiders.

He has two weeks before officially taking up office to form his first government and has already started making contacts and talking to people.

He will first announce his partners in the presidency and then the Cabinet members.

Anastasiades was particularly warm in welcoming Christodoulides whom he personally accompanied at the door at the end of their first meeting.  The purpose of the meeting was for Anastasiades to brief the President-elect on pending major issues pending.

“Whether these relate to internal governance issues, but also to issues related to the Cyprus issue, primarily the results of the President’s latest contacts with EU member states,” Christodoulides told journalists.

“On internal governance issues, we discussed labour issues, the economy, we exchanged views on all issues and I will certainly meet with the President again before he leaves the Presidential Palace,” he added.

Asked whether he discussed with the President the composition of the new Cabinet, Christodoulides replied negatively.

Asked whether he received any advice from the President, he said: “During a discussion advice is heard and it is important but it is only within the context of the discussion.”
