Possible bill amendments could create pharmaceutical prices confusion

Relevant News

Amendments to the bill on pharmaceuticals in Cyprus could pave the way for confusion since the same formulation will be available in the market with two or three different prices.

This is what Philenews reported on Friday, following a debate before the House Health Committee.

MPs heard on Thursday that if the specific amendment gets approved a citizen would go to a pharmacy and buy a pharmaceutical formulation at one price. But the next month he/she will be getting the same formulation at either half or double the price.

There will be no problem in cases where the specific pharmaceutical is obtained through non general health system (Gesy) procedures.

However, the problem will be raised when the pharmaceutical is prescribed through Gesy, pharmacists told Committee members.

To begin with, pharmacists raised question whether the professional himself/herself will decide whether to cooperate with the importer who imports at a higher price or with the one who imports at a lower price.

This is a possibility with which they seem to disagree.
