Police to suggest manslaughter charge for brother who shot sister — report

Relevant News

Police are likely to suggest a 23 year old youth be charged with manslaughter through negligence after his sister was fatally shot in the head at their home earlier this month, CNA reports.

The man says that his military rifle had gone off by accident as he was cleaning it.

The incident took place at their home in Klavidia on May 5. The suspect is currently in police custody. His eight day remand expires on Friday.

CNA said police were completing their inquiry on Thursday and will then submit their findings to the attorney general.

Citing sources, CNA said that police investigators are to suggest the 23 year old is charged with manslaughter through negligence. The final decision rests with the attorney general’s office.

The suspect has been back to the house and elsewhere in the area with police for a recreation of the incident, in the presence of the team of investigators and the forensic pathologists who carried out the post-mortem on his 21 year old sister.

The suspect has reportedly told police that he had argued with his sister and she had deflated his tyres. He had then tampered with the front brakes of her car, which she  had not used that day.
