Possibly forged US university diploma in ex volunteerism commissioner’s case still pending

Relevant News

Even though former volunteerism commissioner Yiannis Yiannaki has been slapped with 18 charges – including forging official documents on his CV – investigators are still waiting for requested documents to be sent from the USA.

Because, in addition to his high school and local college certificates being forged  Yiannaki’s degree from a US university also appeared problematic and investigators had requested assistance from them.

Yiannaki had submitted a paper copy of poor quality showing he had obtained a degree in 1992 from the United States.

However, the degree bears the signatures of four officials who assumed their positions 20 years after Yiannaki had acquired the document he submitted, according to Philenews.

Police and the Law Office of the Republic decided to proceed with the case irrespective of the US response.

The qualifications were used at the Youth Board of Cyprus (ONEK), where he was first appointed in 1996, securing a permanent job in 2007.

President Nicos Anastasiades appointed him commissioner in May 2013, paving the way for Yiannki to get a very high salary at the tax payer’s expense.

Yiannaki, who was officially charged on Thursday, has denied committing the criminal acts.
