Police will be out in force in view of the August 15 holiday with the aim of averting accidents and facilitating motorists, spokesman Andreas Angelides told the Cyprus News Agency on Tuesday.

He said special emphasis will be given to motorways and the secondary road network with patrol cars and police on motorbikes.

He urged drivers to abide by the traffic code, to check that their vehicle is in a good condition, to keep a safe distance from other cars, adhere to the speed limit and for all passengers to wear seat belts. All drivers should ensure they do not consume alcohol above the legal limit and bikers must wear a helmet, he added.
