A police station in Nicosia was on the list of planned contract killings by a regional criminal ring, Philenews reported on Monday citing insiders.
The alert came from Interpol Athens last week after the arrest in December of 11 people, six of whom “active in drug trafficking but also in the execution of criminal actions upon demand”.
Indicative is the fact at on December 15 Greek Police spokeswoman, Constantia Demoglidou, had said that one of the 11 arrested a couple of days earlier in the wider Attica area had a contract killing past. He is a 47-year-old man of Balkan origin.
He had been arrested in his home country for homicides, illegal possession of weapons and participation in a paramilitary organisation.
Evidence collected during the coordinated operation by Greek Police departments and services indicates that the members of the ring were preparing a strike criminal act against a central police station in Nicosia as well.
“A number of handwritten notes” were seized and exposed the planned attack in Nicosia.
