Police ignorant of law provisions on parking in spots reserved for disabled

Relevant News

The Cyprus Paraplegics Organisation has sent a letter to the police chief saying officers seem to be ignorant of the provisions of the law on illegal parking in spots reserved for the disabled.

“We have received complaints about police officers lacking knowledge of your circular, dated November 6, 2019, informing them of the provisions of the specific law,” the letter said.

“Police officers who are ignorant of laws are damaging the image of the force…It is very important for all officers to be aware of the above issue and willing to take the necessary action when they receive such complaints so as to punish those who choose to park illegally in places for people with disabilities,” it added.

The Organisation also called on the police leadership to help efforts towards cultivating awareness among everyone that parking spots for the disabled should only be used by them.

And that anyone using a disabled parking permit without being a lawful holder or illegally parks in a space reserved for people with disabilities commits a criminal offence.

This offence is punishable by imprisonment of up to one year or a fine of up to one €1,285 or both.
