Police have a list of hacker targets

Relevant News

Following investigations by the Cyprus Police’s Electronic Crime Sub-Division into the three cyber-attacks against the University of Cyprus, the Land Registry, and the Open University, the experts managed to get important information.

The origin of last March’s attack on the first two organizations has been identified, resulting in significant evidence, Phileleftheros reported citing information. The experts found traces that led to the Command and Control Server in a third country and managed to have access to it.

According to this evidence, the perpetrators of the malicious attacks were planning to “hit” the electronic systems of two other semi-governmental organizations of Cyprus, as well as the critical infrastructure of European and other countries.

Measures have already been taken to prevent attacks on these two semi-public institutions, while the European Police (Europol) has also been informed in order to protect the services of other countries that were targeted from a possible cyber-attack.

It should be noted that according to Phileleftheros information, it appears that a possible attack on these organizations of the semi-public sector, would cause serious problems.

This is because, due to the nature of their work, these organizations have a large volume of files with the personal data of Cypriot residents, as well as other sensitive information.
