Relevant News

Police chief Zacharias Chrysostomou said on Wednesday that a 35 year old man being held in custody for abducting two 11 year old boys from a Larnaca primary school had given a voluntary statement admitting to the crime.

He said that the man had made some allegations regarding his motives which are being investigated.

Chrysostomou would not comment on the contents of the investigation, saying only that it was proceeding well

Asked about the two boys’ health, he said that according to both police investigations and medical tests, the children had not been physically abused in any way.

Asked why the court custody hearing was held behind closed doors, he said this was exclusively because the offence involved minors.

He thanked the public for their help and said that the Neighbourhood Watch programme had proven beneficial, and currently numbers more than 105,000 participants islandwide.

He noted that it was a member of Neighbourhood Watch who had tipped off police about the location of the 35 year old.
