Police arrest man accused of cutting off roommate’s ear

Police in Ormideia arrested a 41-year-old man who allegedly cut off his roommate’s ear on Sunday evening.

According to police, just before midnight, authorities received information saying that there was an injured man outside a bakery in Ormideia.

Officers who arrived at the scene found a 40-year-old man with severe injuries to his right ear.

The victim told police he was attacked with a knife by his 41-year-old roommate.

The man was transferred to Famagusta General Hospital in Paralimni where he underwent reconstructive surgery.

Later, Famagusta CID located the suspect in a state of drunkenness. When they approached him, he started swearing at officers who proceeded with arresting him on the spot.

The suspect was taken to Famagusta District Court on Monday, where he was remanded in custody for four days. He is facing charges of grievous bodily harm and public insult.

Famagusta CID is continuing investigations.

The victim’s condition is described as stable and non-critical.
