A 24 year old man was fined €26,000 for poaching, the Cyprus News Agency reports.
It said that game wardens spotted the man driving on a rural road in the Kokkinotrimithia area at around 8 pm on Tuesday night after being tipped off that a shot had been heard in the area.
On searching his car, they found a freshly shot hare which was handed in to police as evidence.
The 24 year old went to the police station where he was fined €25,000 for killing game at a time when hunting is prohibited as well as a fine of €1000 for possession of game without a hunting licence.
