Pfizer’s new medicine treating Covid-19 coming to Cyprus soon

Relevant News

Pfizer’s new medicine that can be used to treat adults with Covid-19 who do not require supplemental oxygen is coming to Cyprus soon.

This is what deputy head of the island’s Pharmaceutical Service Dr Elena Panayiotopoulou told Philenews on Friday.

Pfizer’s PAXLOVID “will be an incredible innovation and is a very promising new weapon against the pandemic sicne it can be administered at home at the early stage of the infection,” she also said.

PAXLOVID should be administered as soon as possible after diagnosis of Covid-19 and within five days of the start of symptoms.

The Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) issued advice on the use of PAXLOVID late on Thursday.

Relevant data demonstrated an 89% reduction in risk of Covid-19-related hospitalization or death from any cause in patients treated with PAXLOVID compared to placebo within three days of symptom onset, with no deaths in the treatment group.

Similar results were seen with those treated within five days of symptom onset.
