Paphos is stepping up efforts to tackle visual pollution, starting with the tourist areas and the area around Paphos Airport amid general recognition that is damages the district’s image.
The issue was discussed at a meeting at the district office, community leaders and hoteliers where it was agreed that something had to be done about arbitrarily installed advertising placards and structures.
Paphos Tourism and Marketing Board chairman Yiorgos Mais said that in all the surveys, tourist partners have said the problem reflects badly on the district and urged action to remove illegal structures and signs.
It was agreed that the district office will intensify efforts to remove illegal signs and structures along the road network, with priority going to the tourist areas and the areas near Paphos airport and nearby communities.
