Paphos lawyer jailed for four months for forging attorney general’s signature

Relevant News

Paphos district court on Thursday jailed a 39 year old lawyer for four months for forging the signature of the attorney general.

The lawyer had been contacted by a client regarding financial differences with authorities. He sued the Republic, but the 2013 suit was rejected because the lawyer failed to deliver it.

On July 1, 2014 the lawyer presented himself to police and admitted to his offences. He said that he had written a letter and forged the signature of the attorney general that his client should receive €5.5m in compensation. The lawyer also assured the client that the attorney general was a personal friend.

Arguing in mitigation, defence counsel said his client did not gain financially from the offence, that he has a clean record and had voluntarily reported himself to the police.
