Paphos has emerged as the eighth most popular destination for Israeli tourists among 50 European destinations featured on the website of Israel’s biggest travel information portal www.lametayel.co.il, Paphos regional board of tourism said on Friday.
The website tracked the number of users who searched information on one of the 50 destinations.
Lametayel Group is the biggest travel information portal in Israel. It has 22 info centres as well as a number of websites, most notably Lametayel which was set up in 1999 and features more than 500,000 pages of tourist information, Paphos regional board of tourism said. It has an average of between 1 million to 1.3 million of single users a month.
Paphos regional board of tourism director Nasos Hadhigeorghiou said this was an important distinction for the district which not only gave it a further momentum online but demonstrated its growing popularity.
The comments on the website showed the visitors were satisfied with their Paphos holidays, it said.
The board and a number of hotels recently took part in a tourist fair in Tel Aviv which showed good prospects for the Israeli market. Based on organised packages and airline seats indicate an increase in Israeli visitors in 2019 compared to last year.
