A 41 year old man was arrested in Peyia early on Friday morning as police investigate a case of illegal possession and use of drugs, reckless driving, carrying a knife, traffic offences and failing to comply with a police signal.
Police said that officers on patrol in Peyia had signalled to the driver of a quad bike at 11.20 pm to stop. The driver instead sped off, trying to get away by driving recklessly until his quad collided with a police vehicle and came to a stop.
He then tried to get away on foot but was stopped a short distance away after police fired warning shots in the air. During a search police found in his possession a small quantity of cannabis and three knives.
He was also found to be driving without a licence and insurance.
He refused to be breathalised or to undergo a narco test.
