Owners of catering establishments in coastal Limassol on Monday protested against the government’s new decree providing that they close at 22:30 in a bid to curb the alarming spread of the coronavirus.
“It is a redundant measure and another blow to the already economically struggling owners of catering establishments…who will come out to dinner so early, and when will someone got out for a drink?, ” head of their Association Phanos Leventis told state radio.
The decision, which came in effect on Sunday, was taken after the deterioration of the epidemiological outlook and the increased epidemiological burden in the city and district of Limassol.
The decree provides that the operation of wine and dine areas such as restaurants, cafes, bars, snack bars, etc is allowed until 10.30 pm.
In addition, customers cannot be served directly at the bar of an establishment, which will be used solely for the preparation of beverages by the staff.
Delivery service, however, can continue after 22:30.
During working hours, catering establishments must also observe all hygiene and health measures in place including staff wearing a mask all the time.
