Relevant News

Over 2000 children from war-torn Ukraine have found refuge in Cyprus with their parents and local authorities now trying to make transition to their new life and schooling as smooth as possible.

Most of the children live with their mothers in Larnaca, Paphos and Famagusta area while a smaller number are in Limassol, Philenews reports.

The vast majority of children over the age of six continue their education online and receive lessons from Ukraine, while very few have chosen to attend Cypriot schools because of the language barrier.

As for children under the age of six efforts are underway to find places to operate kindergartens in all districts.

In Paralimni, the Municipality has already provided a room for a kindergarten with a Ukrainian refugee woman who is also a teacher already providing her services.

In Larnaca district, a room was provided by the community council of Pyla where many Ukrainians live.  The allocated space is located inside the restored former police station and is expected to be operational in a week’s time.

In Paphos, a hotelier has expressed interest in offering jobs to Ukrainian mothers along with a nursey place for their children.
