At the same time, head of Parents of Primary School Students Federation Sotiris Christofi said they are also infuriated over the mask decision which is to lead to a bundle of difficulties.

Christofi also accused education authorities of being indifferent to the bad psychology of children after they will be forced to wear a mask.

Cases of the Delta variant of the coronavirus have been ticking up in Cyprus, like elsewhere in Europe, over the past month.

By late Tuesday, authorities had recorded 131,028 cases since the pandemic broke out in March 2020, along with 590 deaths.

From Monday, children aged 6-11 will be required to undergo weekly screening for Covid-19, and wearing masks will be mandatory.
