Relevant News

One more person has died, a man aged 64 with underlying health conditions, the Health Ministry said on Friday, and another 40 people have tested positive for coronavirus.

This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 396 (including ten in the British Bases). So far there were 13 deaths of patients found positive to Coronavirus of which nine are attributable to Covid-19.

According to the update from the Ministry of Health, the new confirmed cases are:

  • 29 found through tracing of the contacts of people who were found positive to Coronavirus
  • 2 who had returned from a trip abroad
  • 9 whose history is being investigated

From the cases that were being investigated, 11 have been traced back to contacts and 10 are still being investigated.

Dr Leontios Kostrikis said that 268 of the 396 confirmed cases are from contact with other people found positive to Coronavirus.

9,447 tests have been conducted so far by CING, the microbiology department at Nicosia and Limassol Hospitals and by private labs.

27 people have so far been cured from the virus.

Dr Leontios Kostrikis said that today’s results are epidemiologically and arithmetically in line with previous days and in that sense are not surprising.

He said that it’s evident that the virus has spread in the population and called anew on the public to follow the government’s instructions as well as personal hygiene rules.

Dr Marios Loizou said that until 3pm today 37 people were being treated at the Famagusta referral hospital, five of whom in the increased care unit.

11 people are intubated in ICUs; 2 in the ICU of Limassol Hospital and 9 in the ICU of Nicosia Hospital. 1 person is being treated in the Limassol Hospital ICU without intubation in a stable condition. The ICU patients’ condition was described as stable but critical.

Another six Covid-positive cases are being treated in the remaining hospitals.

He said that the Health Ministry has implemented a process of codifying the final cause of death of Coronavirus patients through the software IRIS in order to represent as accurately as possible the real cause of death of patients found positive to the virus SARS-CoV-2, taking into account that many of those patients have underlying health conditions.

Therefore, upon a reevaluation of the deaths, the Health Ministry said that a total of 13 patients found positive to the virus have died, nine of which were attributed to Covid-19 and four to other reasons.

The median age of patients whose cause of death was Covid-19 is 66 years. 86% are men and 14% are women.
