One in two did not pay the COVID-19 fine

One in two citizens, who has been reported from the beginning of the pandemic until today has not paid the out-of-court fine and will be taken to court.

According to Police information, most reports of individuals and establishments took place in Nicosia and Limassol and Paphos follows.

A spokesman for the Police said that since 11 March when the Health Ministry decrees have been in place 13,303 citizens have been reported. Some 6,600 have paid their out of court fine while the remaining 6,700 have not so they will be taken to court. The reason so many citizens have not paid the fine that was initially 85 euros and later increased to 150 euros, vary. Some say the report is unfair while others do not have the money to pay.

Cyprus police reported in the last 24 hours a total 95 individuals and establishments for violations of measures in place to contain the coronavirus pandemic.

According to the police press office out of 1,428 checks across Cyprus, 92 individuals and 3 establishments were reported. Most reports took place in Larnaca.
