As the medical system focuses on the coronavirus pandemic over the past couple of years one in five heart patients seem to have neglected their condition during this time.
This is what a study by the Cyprus Society of Cardiology indicates and suggests that strengthening the institution of the personal doctor is a must.
“Over the last two years, the Covid-19 pandemic has negatively affected multiple sectors of life. Regarding health, it has been internationally observed that the pandemic and the fear it has brought about led to the deterioration of the care of chronic diseases,” the study said.
“The delay in seeking help in cases that may need urgent treatment is also something observed worldwide. Heart diseases are unfortunately no exception to this phenomenon,” it added.
The study had a total of 1,000 citizens participating, and also showed the following:
—22% of participants reported they are more concerned about Covid-19 compared to other conditions they have. This fact also applies to 25% of participants who are heart patients.
—12% of participants neglected their health issues due to Covid-19.
