Another 29 people have tested positive for coronavirus in Cyprus out of 891 lab tests, bringing the total to 662, including 10 at the British Bases, the Health Ministry said on Monday.

One person has died, a 79 year old man at the ICU of Nicosia Hospital who although suffered from underlying health conditions, Covid-19 was determined as the final cause of death.

This brings the total number of deaths from Covid-19 to 12, 8 men and 4 women with average age 69 years. Another five died while infected with the virus, but Covid-19 was not determined to be the final cause of death.

The new confirmed cases are:

  • 19 from 418 tracing tests, including a health professional and a patient from Larnaca hospital
  • 10 from the 20,000 large scale testing of the government to workers in the public and private sectors

Dr Leontios Kostrikis said that of the new 29 cases, 12 workers found positive were from the same workplace.

621 tests from the planned 20,000 have been completed since Saturday.

Until 3pm on Monday, 23 people were being treated at the Famagusta referral hospital, two of whom in the increased care unit. Three patients were discharged.

Nine patients are intubated in ICUs; two at Limassol Hospital and seven at Nicosia Hospital. Four more patients are being treated at the Nicosia Hospital ICU without intubation. The clinical condition of all ICU patients is currently critical but stable.
