It was an unpresented heatwave in October over the weekend with the temperature in Cyprus reaching a high on Sunday of 40 C inland.
As expected, beaches all across the Mediterranean island were flooded with bathers trying to get cooled down.
At the same time, the Meteorology Service issued a yellow alert over extreme heat and authorities kept warning the public to avoid too much sun exposure.
However, as from Monday the weather is changing noticeably – becoming cooler by the hour.
The forecast is that the temperature will drop by even five degrees Centigrade by late Monday-early Tuesday.
And and come Wednesday and Thursday rain and thunder will be on the way – mainly inland and in the mountains.
Meteorologists have also predicted that autumn conditions will finally prevail and that air conditioning units will no longer be necessary – at least for a few months.
