Number of new Covid-19 infections falling, National Surveillance Report shows

The Mediterranean island’s epidemiological indicators on new Covid-19 infections are falling, according to the National Surveillance Report released on Friday.

Specifically, over the last week a total of 457,257 new cases have been diagnosed of which 986 patients died due to the infection. The case fatality risk is 0.2%.

In the last 14 days, that is since March 29, a total of 40,795 new cases were diagnosed. The 14-day cumulative diagnosis rate is 4,594 per 100,000 population.

The median age of Covid-19 cases was 37 years with 54.5% being women (16,223), 45.5% men (13,562), according to the report.

Based on the epidemiological history, 2.4% (n = 993) were cases with a recent travel history, while 97.6% (n = 39,528) concern cases of domestic transmission.
