Action is to be taken against noise pollution Interior Minister Constantinos Petrides has pledged after a 2016 law went unimplemented for three years.
Petrides told the House Interior Committee stricter laws will be enforced this week with the issue of decrees that will set a ‘noise level ceiling’ to measure noise levels.
The decrees will also set out the specifications for the mobile equipment that will be used to determine whether noise levels are above the acceptable level.
In addition, loudspeaker licences will be scrapped and and replaced with a ‘sound’ permit.
There will be a change to the permitted hours and failure to adhere to these hours will result in stricter penalties.
