Despite last year’s catastrophic fires in the mountainous areas of Limassol and Larnaca three highly-affected communities have been left without fire trucks in contrast with five others.
And this has sparked the strong anger of residents of the left-behind communities of Vavatsinia, Ayion Vavatsinias and Akapnous, Philenews reported on Friday.
The fires in July last year killed four people and burned around 55 square kilometres of land across the villages of Arakapas and Eptagonia in the Limassol district. And Ora, Melini, Odou, Ayioi Vavatsinias and Vavatsinia in the Larnaca district.
In a letter, the leaders of the three communities have requested the intervention of the Ministries of Interior and of Agriculture on this burning issue. They have also asked for an explanation as to why they were left out of fire trucks that have been donated by a private company.
They argue that there are ulterior motives behind this move.
